    • The simplicity of materials and form on the exterior of the house informed the decoration of all the interior rooms. There is a modern purity to the use of humble materials in a nuanced monochromatic palette.
    • A powerful message is delivered in the entrance hall. A single ottoman of heroic proportions indicates that purity of form and simplicity of materials are the driving goals for the rooms that lay ahead.
    • A tempered environment means every decision has tremendous impact. Throughout the house, sculptural forms animate one another. Purity of form is exemplified by a 1930's parchment covered waterfall table.
    • Crisp basalt trim and chalky plaster walls, along with concise furniture forms, move the restrained scheme forward.
    • A commodious demi lune banquette at one end of the living room acts as a cul de sac, tucking you into the predominant feature of the room, the bay window.
    • Exploring an American tavern vernacular, the double dining tables accommodate modern needs by encouraging both intimate, everyday use and scaled up country house weekend entertaining.
    • The master bedroom's airiness, one of the newer additions to the house, is meant to lighten the mood.
    • In a secondary bedroom, rough hewn surfaces of fieldstone and timber circle back to the Federal era origins of the house. The pillow shaped headboard cuts the austerity and adds a touch of voluptuousness.
    • In the eaves of the attic, raw space is carved out for an extra bedroom. The sculptural Tback chair is doing double duty as a bedside table.

In the dignified environs of Kent Connecticut, this handsome stone house has stood proudly on the property for centuries. It has been significantly enlarged and expanded to encompass two guest houses, formal gardens, covered bridges, stables, and a screening room. Each renovation has delivered a house more timely, modern, and appropriate. Standing the test of time is a key goal in my work. Rooms that are classic and timeless will effortlessly return on their investment.
